The trail gradually climbs through the valley along the well-preserved mule track (mulatjera) to Koča na Doliču, which is considered one of the top three historic mule tracks in Slovenia. After several hours of ascent, you reach Koča na Doliču, located just below the massive southern walls of Kanjavec.

From here the route continues across the rocky alpine plateau toward Hribarice, surrounded by dramatic limestone peaks. Hikers seeking a challenge can make a detour to the summit of Kanjavec, one of Slovenia’s most spectacular peaks. The trail to Kanjavec is partially demanding, but the summit rewards you with breathtaking panoramic views of:

  • Triglav and the Zadnjica Valley
  • Triglav Lakes Valley
  • Bohinj
  • surrounding peaks including Velo polje, Tosc, Razor, Pihavec, Jalovec, Mangart, and nearby high peaks. You can also clearly see the mountain hut Planinka under Triglav from the summit.

The trail then continues toward Zasavska koča na Prehodavcih. This section of the hike includes another historic mulatjera descending toward Trenta, considered one of the most scenic mule tracks in Slovenia, and a truly memorable high-alpine walk.

From Prehodavci, hikers can also enjoy views of four of the seven lakes in the Triglav Lakes Valley (Jezero pod Vršaki, Rjavo jezero, Zeleno jezero and Jezero pod Vršacem), with crystal-clear alpine waters nestled among dramatic limestone peaks. The viewpoint here offers breathtaking panoramas toward Razor, Zadnjiški Ozebnik, Jalovec, Bavški Grintavec, and on the opposite side toward Zelnarice, the ridge of Lepo Špičje, and the Vršaki peaks.

From Prehodavci, the trail begins descending toward the remote alpine pasture Planina Trebiški Dol. The landscape gradually transitions from rocky high-mountain terrain to grassy alpine meadows and finally to forest, returning toward the 1trenta Valley.

This hike offers a fantastic combination of quiet alpine valleys, dramatic high-mountain landscapes, historic mule tracks, and unforgettable viewpoints. The massive southern wall of Kanjavec rises around 1,500 meters, making it the tallest cliff in Slovenia, and a striking landmark throughout the hike. Because of its length and elevation gain, most hikers choose to complete it as a two-day adventure, allowing ample time to enjoy the spectacular scenery along the way.
